SOUTH ASIAN AMERICAN JURISPRUDENCE

The Asian Pacific American Law Journal at UCLA (APALJ) invites paper presentation submissions for our Spring 2008 Symposium Conference. Individuals will be selected to present their papers at this conference. Submissions should be original papers of interest relating to issues facing South Asian American communities. All professors, attorneys, and students are invited to submit. Founded in 1991, APALJ is one of only two law journals in the nation dedicated to providing a forum for current issues facing Asian American communities.

The Spring 2008 Symposium Conference is scheduled to provide a forum for increased dialogue about issues affecting South Asian American communities. Papers presented at the Symposium in Spring 2008 may be selected for publication in APALJ Volume 14. We welcome papers that also consider and apply historical, sociological, economic, and statistical analyses to issues facing South Asian American communities, including but not limited to the following topics:

1. Outsourcing to countries in South Asia
2. Effects of 9/11 on the South Asian community (discrimination, hate crimes, etc.)
3. Effects of affirmative action on South Asians
4. Labor issues involving taxi-drivers, doctors, hotel owners, engineers, and entrepreneurs
5. Immigration issues
6. Domestic violence
7. Trafficking
8. Nuclear weapons/energy issues relating to South Asia

Papers and abstracts should be double-spaced with a title page showing the author’s name, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, and professional background. Submissions should conform generally to the United States Government Printing Office Style Manual (28th ed. 1984) and to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (18th ed. 2005). Papers will not be returned.

APALJ will evaluate submissions using a variety of criteria, including originality, timeliness, thoroughness of research, quality of legal analysis, logic of argument, use of authority, and writing style. APALJ requires notification if any part of the paper has been previously published or submitted elsewhere. APALJ reserves the right not to publish if entries do not meet our publishing criteria. If you have any questions, please contact Vinod Mapranath at mapranath2008@lawnet.ucla.edu or Cindy Uh (Volume 12 Editor-in-Chief) at uh2007@lawnet.ucla.edu.
