The South Asian Legal Scholarship Project has the following board members:

Vinod J. Mapranath
Board Chair
Vinod is currently a second-year law student at UCLA. He majored in Finance and Electrical Engineering at the Wharton School/University of Pennsylvania. He received a M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

Board Member
Cindy is currently a third-year law student at UCLA and is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Pacific American Law Journal at UCLA (APALJ). She majored in Communications and Faith, Peace & Justice at Boston College.
rakhi pic Rakhi Patel
Board Member
Rakhi is currently a first-year law student at UCLA. She majored in Economics and Chinese Studies at Grinnell College and received a M.A. in East Asian Studies at Stanford University.

Gauri is currently an LL.M. student at UCLA. She graduated from the National Law School of India University in Bangalore, India with a B.A., LL.B. (Honors).

kang pic Jerry Kang
APALJ Faculty Advisor
Professor Kang is a Professor of Law at UCLA. The UCLA Law Class of 1998 named him Professor of the Year. He has served as co-director of the School of Law’s Specialization in Critical Race Studies. Professor Kang earned his J.D. from Harvard University, where he served as supervising editor of the Harvard Law Review, and his A.B. from Harvard in 1990. He then clerked for Judge William A. Norris of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and worked at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration on cyberspace policy. Professor Kang is the author of Communications Law & Policy: Cases and Materials (2001) and co-author of Race, Rights, and Reparation: The Law and the Japanese American Internment.

APALJ Faculty Advisor
Professor Nanda is a Lecturer in Law at UCLA. Professor Nanda was a Skadden Foundation Fellow at the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund. Professor Nanda earned her J.D. from Northwestern University, where she served as Articles Editor of the Law Review, and her B.A. from Berkeley in 1995. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Alternative Dispute Resolution Center and served as the 2002-2003 Pro Bono Chair for SABA-SC and co-founded 911 Legal Response Network, an anti-hate crimes advocacy group.
